Hello everyone!

As summer slowly draws to a close, how are you all doing?

Here on Iriomote Island, the warm nights are still lingering. Why not go on a little adventure during one of these nights? Today, I want to share a story about a nighttime hunt for birgus latro, along with the enchanting “sagari-bana” flowers. 🌙

First, let’s talk about the birgus latro.

As you stroll through Iriomote Island at night, you might hear the rustling of leaves in the darkness. That could be a sign that the birgus latro are starting their nightly activities! 🦀

Just the other night, my friend and I grabbed our flashlights and went on a birgus latro hunt.

As we quietly walked through rocky areas and forests, we spotted a majestic birgus latro hiding in the shadows! And on the road too!

With its powerful claws, it looked like the king of the night, standing proud and unyielding—it was truly thrilling to see.

After the excitement of spotting a birgus latro, there’s something else you should definitely see: the “sagari-bana” flowers.

Sagari-bana is a mystical flower that blooms only during summer nights, and its beauty is simply beyond words. 🌸

The way its flowers dangle down as they bloom is like a scene from a dream, as if stars have descended to the earth. These flowers bloom in the middle of the night and fall by morning, making it a fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

After spotting a birgus latro, head towards the riverside or a wetland area, and you might find sagari-bana in full bloom. On my recent crab-hunting adventure, I stumbled upon sagari-bana on the way back, and I was completely captivated by its ethereal beauty.

Under a sky full of stars, witnessing the robust presence of birgus latro and the delicate charm of sagari-bana—why not spend such a luxurious night here?

The nights on Iriomote Island are filled with the mysterious wonders of nature. I hope you take the chance to create a truly unforgettable moment here.
