Hello everyone! 🌞
Today, I’d like to share a bit about the weather in Iriomote Island. While autumn might be approaching on the mainland, here in Iriomote, summer is still in full swing! Located further south than Okinawa’s main island and close to Taiwan, Iriomote enjoys warm weather almost all year round. During the summer, the humidity is high, and it often experiences sudden rain showers that quickly clear up.
One of the special things about Iriomote’s weather is the frequent appearance of rainbows 🌈. Thanks to the mix of sun and rain, you’ll often spot one arching across the sky. This ever-changing climate also benefits the island’s rich natural environment, making the lush greenery flourish. Along the rivers and coasts, you can find vast mangrove forests, home to an array of plants and wildlife.
The island, along with others like Ishigaki, forms the Yaeyama Islands. About 90% of Iriomote is covered in subtropical forests, making it a paradise for nature lovers. The numerous rivers, waterfalls, and ancient trees, some over 300 years old, are a sight to behold. Iriomote is also perfect for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), especially along the famous Urauchi River, where you can paddle through quiet mangrove tunnels. It’s the ideal place to connect with nature and unwind 🌿.
Interestingly, Iriomote is known for its late sunsets. During the summer solstice, it stays bright until nearly 8 PM! In contrast, the mornings can be dark even at 6 AM. This unique time flow is one of the island’s hidden charms.
So, if you visit Iriomote, be sure to immerse yourself in the natural beauty and embrace the ever-changing weather. You might just catch a stunning rainbow lighting up the sky! 🌈✨
